I am an enthusiastic learner and have taken a non-traditional pathway though education that allows me to teach students of all levels, regardless of age. After spending several years in the private sector, I returned to school when I was 27 years old, at times taking evening classes and working full-time during the day, eventually graduating summa cum laude from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2012 with a degree in history and Latin. Following graduation, I earned my master's degree in Wales at Cardiff University studying medieval archaeology, including writing a dissertation on early Anglo-Saxon cremation cemeteries.These experiences have allowed me to be able to tutor not only social studies and history, but also writing and speaking abilities. I am proficient in constructing essays of any length, as well as working with topics that deal with both fiction and nonfiction topics. Though subjects like history can be intimidating to students at times, they are sources of inspiration for me, and I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm for them.When I am not tutoring, I enjoy indoor activities such as comic books and gaming, and outdoor activities like hiking, hunting, and fishing. I also have a love of cooking, and my travels have allowed me to experience some truly amazing cuisine firsthand.
